Lean on me, when you’re not strong, and I’ll be your friend – I’ll help you carry on! ~ Bill Withers
Life can just be too much – too much pain, too much drama, and too much to take. Part of that is our humanity; we take way too much on ourselves and become overburdened and stressed out. Some of it is just the way life rolls; we all have things that go wrong, and sometimes those things just keep coming in waves. Whatever the situation, the point is that life is hard.
But what do we do when life gets to be too much? Do we shut down and shut everyone out? Do we simply smile and pretend that everything is fine when inside we are slowly withering away? Do we slip into depression mode and just go through the motions? Do we try and handle everything ourselves? While it is true that we don’t want to be around negative attitudes because they are extremely contagious, the point is that sometimes, we all hurt, and it is our responsibility to each other to try and lighten another’s load.
We are told in Galatians 6:2 to, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” God wants us to help each other. He made us community creatures so that we would depend on each other to carry one another through the difficult times in life when everything just seems too hard. Reaching out to one another and asking for help isn’t admitting a weakness; it is exhibiting strength. So the next time you feel overstressed, overburdened and overwhelmed, plug in your neon sign that simply states, “Help me!” I am certain that if you have been that friend indeed, your friends will come running when you are in need.
Catch you on the flip side,
