Have You Ever Seen the Rain?

And when it rains on your parade, look up rather than down. Without the rain, there would be no rainbow. ~ Gilbert K. Chesterton

There is something sort of sad about dark, rainy days.  They seem to cast a shadow of reflection over us, don’t they? For me, the rain allows those melancholy feelings to wash over me and cleanse me from the emotional build-ups that we all have.  Rainy weather is healing weather; it allows us to peacefully reflect, and look forward to the sunny days that lie ahead.

Lately, I have had a tremendous weight placed on my shoulders.  Emotionally, I have been reflecting on some situations that are just overwhelmingly powerful in their scope, and I have found myself questioning everything.  Ultimately, however, I always come back to my basic reality: God won’t bring you to it if He won’t bring you through it.  So even if there is something that is overwhelming to me as a human being, I have to recognize that God doesn’t bring people and situations into our lives for no apparent reason, and I have to trust in Him to guide me through the rough spots, just as He always has.

That is why we are to build our foundation on God; so that when our storm comes – so that when the rain washes over us – we have a strong foundation that will not move under pressure.  Our foundation is the key to how we handle life’s pressures; Matthew 7:25 tells us, “The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”   Remember the song we sang in Sunday School? “The wise man built his house upon the Rock… and the rains came a tumblin’ down…” So on these rainy days, when that melancholy feeling washes over me, I am determined to remind myself that God holds a promise for all of those who build their foundation on Him…

“And the wise man’s house stood firm…”

Catch you on the flip side,

Ang
