Chasing Utopia

You gotta feel it before you can heal it! ~ Angie Swafford

Most of the time, we are in a rush to have things “just right”.  We want the perfect job, the perfect mate, the perfect home, the perfect car, the perfect children, the perfect life.  Yet those things aren’t just simply handed to us, are they? We have to work – and work hard- to “accomplish” anything in life.  We jump from one thing to another, whether it be jobs, friends, partners, churches, etc., in search of Utopia, and yet Utopia always seems to elude us.  Why?

Because we don’t take the time to look, reflect, and learn.  We have to look at why we’re not satisfied, why we are not pleased, why we are not fulfilled.  The answers are too hard to deal with many times.  We may be afraid, hurt, confused, angry, or filled with pride; yet if we don’t take a look at what is driving us to remain empty and unsatisfied, even when we reach the ultimate prize – Utopia – we will remain that unfulfilled shell of a person, never living up to the full potential that God intended for each of us.  And God does have something in mind for each and every one of us!  “For I know the plans I have for you, “ declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11).

After identifying the reasons we are not satisfied, then comes the hard part: feeling it.  You have to use those pent up emotions as a pointer to lead you toward those things you need to work on and work out – and that’s when the healing begins.  And remember that God is the One who guides this whole process, and learning to lean more on Him is essential to the healing process.

The amazing part in all of this is that once we heal, once we open our hearts and minds and accept the spectacular things God has in store for us, we just might realize that original concept of Utopia really wasn’t perfection at all.  Maybe – just maybe – our Utopia is what we had all along ….

Catch you on the flip side!
