I am sure that for most of us – it was nice to see some white stuff on the ground this past week. Just a reminder to us all that it is still winter! And it really didn’t come as much of a surprise – since the weather machine did predict a significant snow to occur! Hope your backs are ok from the shoveling!
But I do recall a very unpredicted and unexpected snow just a few years back! It was during a spring break, and students from the area schools had the week off to supposedly enjoy the warm and wonderful spring weather! Well, those in Florida may have been enjoying it!! Because it snowed during that spring break – and lots of it! In March? I thought it was suppose to snow in the winter, not wait till spring. Talk about surprises!! I was thinking of taking down my snow fence, putting my snow shovel (which hadn’t been used till that week) away and placing my boots in storage. Good thing I didn’t! I did not expect this snow. And neither did any of the students who were sledding instead of sunbathing! Whatever the case, life is full of surprises that we don’t plan for. I guess we never know when it may snow. It can happen anytime. In fact, I remember snow on Memorial Day a couple of times (That’s in May for those who are calendar illiterate)
There is another event that will happen, but perhaps much like this snow, unexpectedly and without much warning. The Lord Jesus Christ is going to return someday, and He will take all of those who put their trust in Him along with Him. Much like my thinking that winter would not show up again, many of us believe the Lord will not show up either. And just like this spring snow, He will come at a time none of us were expecting. And just like I was about to put away the boots, shovel and fence, many of you may be thinking about putting holiness and right living away for a while, and instead, enjoy some activities, lifestyles and habits, that may not be endorsed or condoned by the Lord! “The Lord is not coming back at this time”, may be your thinking. And you decide to live your life as normal, ignoring God’s Word to us about following Him. We believe we can start living right when it appears He may be coming back. It doesn’t work like that!!
It’s true that when spring finally does arrive, and summer is firmly in place, there is probably no chance of snow returning till late fall. But with the Lord, He can come at any time, and at any hour of any day. We must always be ready for that event. How are you doing? Have you allowed sin to take the place of the way you should be living? If He should show up today, do you know He will take you with Him? Do you need to talk about any of this?
